This is a skill and technique based course and will teach literary analysis. This course will not include teach school set texts in depth.

This course is for students who in their last 2 years of pre tertiary education, and are studying literature or literature components, such as:

  • A Level Literature
  • AP Literature
  • AP Language and Literature
  • Grade 10-12 English and Literature

Course Overview
This skill based course will provide the student with the skill set needed for them to ace literary analysis and its critical commentary essay. The course will follow a modular approach- covering literary analysis techniques, followed by guided technique and skill practices on a wide variety of literary texts. Next literary techniques, analysis and essay writing will be modelled in tandem, using literary texts and real exam questions from the students curriculum. The student will be taught how to ensure that their essays reflect their analysis, thus meeting their curriculum criterions.

A wide variety of key literary texts will be used, including prose, poetry and drama such as Shakespeare, poetry from Sylvia Plath and novels such as The Great Gatsby. The student will also be able to use their individual school set texts, although no single text will be covered in depth.

At the end of the course the student:

  • will be able to annotate, evaluate and analyse the effect of literary devices, structure and techniques in a variety of literary text types. They also will be able to use contextual understanding to examine and interpret texts and how text conventions across genres, cultures and time periods influence texts.
  • will be able to write critical commentary on unseen prose and poetry, ensuring it is presented in a logical manner. They will also be able to ensure that their analysis is reflected clearly by picking relevant details, quotes and using focused elaboration to develop analysis to produce a cohesive essay, while meeting the students curriculum criterions.
  • will be able to comprehend the requirements and rubric for various coursework such as critical essays, oral and empathetic responses to various texts- enabling them to meet their curriculum criterions.

Express Course

Our express courses are abridged versions of our standard courses.

They are best suited as revision courses for those who have a strong grasp of the subject and looking to achieve the highest grades.

They have a run time of 6 hours, and each lesson is for an hour.

Weaker students might want to use the express course as an overview and then follow that up with ad- hoc tuition on weak areas.

Standard Course

Our standard course, with a run time of 12 hours, is best for those who need more guidance and/or have little to basic understanding of the subject/work.

The course progresses at a moderate pace and all aspects of the subject/work are covered in depth.

Subsequent classes will be booked during your first class with the master tutor. 

Express Course

We recommend scheduling your crash course lesson hours as following:

  • 1 week revision crash course - 6 sessions (1 hours daily from Monday- Saturday)
  • Weekend revision crash Course - 3 sessions (2 hour sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Standard Course

We recommend scheduling your standard course lesson hours as following:

  • 1 month course- 8 sessions (1.5 hour sessions, 2 times a week) 
  • 3 week course- 8 sessions (1.5 hour session, 3 times a week)

Course customisation

All courses will be customised towards the student and a detailed lesson plan will be drawn up on the first lesson to ensure individual student goals are met.
